People Rooted in Purpose
Our Team
We believe strong relationships are the foundation of meaningful impact, and our team shows up every day with care, consistency, and heart.
Lauren Symmonds Aboussie, LCSW
Founder/Executive Director
Lauren later moved to Los Angeles, where she worked as a clinical social worker supporting young children and families experiencing adjustment challenges, severe trauma, and neglect. After returning to Boise with her husband, Mike, Lauren earned her Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential and became a Registered Play Therapist. She specialized in evidence-based and relationship-focused approaches, including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Animal-Assisted Play Therapy.
While working as a trauma therapist, Lauren felt a growing pull toward preventative and upstream solutions. Through her clinical work and conversations across the community, she identified a significant gap in services for teens and young adults in the Treasure Valley. In response, Lauren engaged local nonprofit leaders, social workers, school counselors, educators, and students to collaboratively design the holistic, strengths-based programming that defines Aspen Grove Community Center today.
Lauren holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Spanish from Gonzaga University, a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Denver, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Washington.
Lauren and her husband, Mike, are the proud parents of two young children. Outside of work, she can often be found exploring Idaho’s mountains and rivers with her family and their dog, grounding herself in the same sense of connection and belonging that AGCC strives to foster for the youth it serves.
